Will the sleeping beauty be able to wake herself up? Published: Los Angeles : Disney Press, 2016. But as Maleficent's agents follow her every move, Aurora struggles to discover who her true allies are and, moreover, who she truly is. Once upon a dream: a twisted tale (Book) Author: Braswell, Liz, Series: Twisted tales (Liz Braswell) volume 2. Aurora isn't alone-a charming prince is eager to join her quest, and old friends offer their help. With a desperate fairy's last curse controlling her mind, Princess Aurora must escape from a different castle of thorns and navigate a dangerously magical landscape-created from her very own dreams. But when the prince falls asleep as his lips touch the fair maiden's, it is clear that this fairy tale is far from over. ![]() It should be simple-a dragon defeated, a slumbering princess in a castle, a prince poised to wake her. What if the sleeping beauty never woke up? To whom would you recommend this book? This isn’t a sequel to Braswell’s first book so it could be a great stand-alone for lovers of tweaked fairy tale re-tellings but also for readers who really enjoy the eerie dreamy style of story where you’re not quite sure what’s real and what’s not.Pre owned in very good to like new condition. Very well done.Īnything you didn’t like about it? So many things give away the book’s main premise that it could feel annoying to sharp readers that Aurora Rose spends so long unaware that she’s dreaming. This was a surprisingly well paced story with lots of strange dream-like sequences, a good bit of magic and “find your power inside yourself” character building, but also some really thoughtful exploration on depression and feelings of being trapped in your life. ![]() When one day Aurora seems to conjure a rabbit, a creature she’d never remembered even knowing of, out of thin air, she begins to question her Aunt Malificent and dig into the truth. With her parents, the King and Queen, in the dungeon, Aurora spends her increasingly trapped and frustrated “days” anticipating the next great party at the castle confiding in her one “friend” Liana, a handmaiden who’d been trapped in the castle along with the others. Readers will realize right away from the title and tag-line and many “Clues” in the first few chapters (inability to do math, books are empty or incomprehensible, etc) that Aurora Rose is still sleeping and is dreaming of a world where Malificent is the benevolent fairy who holed up the remaining survivors in the castle on the eve of Aurora’s 16th birthday when (Malificent explains) Aurora’s parents had done irreparable harm to the world making it unsafe to leave the thorny vine and vile demon-creature-“protected” castle. ![]() ![]() What did you like about the book? What if Sleeping Beauty never woke up? What would have happened if the Prince, instead of waking Aurora Rose with a kiss, instead fell asleep as well? That’s the tag-line and premise of Braswell’s second twisted tale (tweaking of the classic Disney take on an even more classic fairy tale).
